         Ninety new PSHS scholars came to the venue along with their parents to witness the first day of school at Pisay. Students from the higher levels were also there to attend the program.
         The Freshmen Orientation started with the Eucharistic Celebration followed by the welcome remarks of Dr. Estrella De Dios.
         Then came the inspirational message of the guest speaker, Dr. Mina Sirikit C. Tagra, an obstetrician-gynecologist and a mother of PSHS scholars. She described life then as a student as difficult and arduous long before she fulfilled her dreams. She also said that patience and hard work is the key to success.
         After the inspirational message was an intermission number then the awarding of the Director’s List for school year 2007-2008. Subsequently, the high-spirited faculty members and administrative staffs of the school were introduced to the new set of scholars along with vibrant cheers from students of the higher level.
         Another surprise number was presented by the versatile scholars and next was a closing remarks of the SSD chief, Ms. Ma. Felipa D.E. Isagan. Finally, the new set of scholar verbalized their first Scholar’s Pledge hereby promising to be scientific and humanistic.
         The second part of the program was mainly all about orienting the freshmen of the policies, rules, and services of the school. A slideshow of school activities and celebration were showed on “A School Year in a Capsule.” It shows the scientific mind of the scholar through application paired with their versatility.






         The Orientation was broadened into seven topics. Dr. Estrella A. De Dios gave an overview of the PSHS System and PSHS-EVC Program and Policies. Mr. Ricardo N. Mazo spoke about the scholarship policies. Engr. Joan G. Dela Cruz recapitulated the curriculum and grading system. Ms. Ma. Felipa D. E. Isagan showed the student sevices given by the school. Mr. Mark Adrian Santos gave information about the Student Alliance. Ms. Vesifina S. Ron presented the benefits gained of being a member of the PSHS Multipurpose Cooperative and at the same time the rules and regulations of the canteen. Lastly, Dr. Efren Canillas spoke about the PSHS-EVC GPTA.
         After several significant information were discussed about the school, an open forum was given time. The freshmen with their parents felt the hunger so they left for lunch and went to the school campus immediately after lunch.
         In order for the freshmen to familiarize and to acquaint themselves with the school surroundings, the registrar organized a campus tour. The freshmen took a walk around the school campus to the academic building, classrooms, laboratories, canteen and the dormitory.
         Afterwards, the parents had their first Homeroom meeting held at the respective classrooms of their child. They elected the officers and discussed about upcoming homeroom projects.
         Immediately after the parent’s meeting, the freshmen also had their first meeting ; introducing themselves, getting to know each other, election of officers and upcoming projects.
         The first week stay of the new freshmen was concentrated with thorough subject orientations and policy implementations. †

         Of the 21,303 applicants, 1,119 examinees successfully hurdled the one-step screening administered on November 15, 2008. Those who achieve the highest scores were admitted to the PSHS Main Campus, located in Diliman, Quezon City. The rest were admitted to campuses in other parts of the Philippines.
          Starting this year’s Philippine Science High School National Competitive Examination, only one test was administered, a scholastic aptitude test (SAT) which is designed to measure Scientific Ability, Quantitative Ability, Abstract Reasoning and Verbal Aptitude.
          These new set of scholars will enjoy the privilege of receiving stipend monthly. The amount they will receive will depend on the socio-economic bracket as determined from his or her parents statement of assets and liabilities and income tax return. In addition to this stipend, they will also go to a quality school with free tuition and free loan of books.
          In repay to these delightful privileges, scholars are going to undergo tough a curriculum that is highly-emphasized on the fieldsof science and mathematics and they are expected to meet the standards of both scholastic achievement and behavior.
          After the current freshmen finish their first year course, these new scholars will fill up the slots emptied by the current freshmen in academic year 2009-2010. †













        The SA Election was held last January 23. The Meeting de Avance took place in the morning of Election Day. Different running candidates spoke on stage to convince the student body for their votes.
        After the candidates’ speeches, they where thrown different questions, whether to challenge their sincerity, answering capabilities and test their leadership skills.
        The Meeting de Advance was finished at twelve. By 1:00 P.M., students voted on the Computer Laboratory. For the first time, instead of voting manually using pen and paper, the computer was used to cast the votes.
        Voters entered by ten and they were given a limit of three minutes to vote. At 3:00 P.M, all students finished casting their votes.
        In just an hour and a half of waiting for the results, Ace Napinas of WINGS Party won garnering 202 points while his opponent got 136 votes.
        For Vice President Mera Shane Golo won with 182 votes against Rachel Ann Villmayor who got 145 votes. For Secretary, 169 votes made Mine Tagra sworn into office against her batchmate Victoria Cu who got only five votes less then Tagra. Marc Arthur Limpiado was elected garnering 186 points against Juchris Bayani getting only 129 points. For Auditor, Danielle Militante garnering 233 votes surpassed Angelica Malit who only got 68 points. For PIO Monique Paet won with 194 points against Ina Costibolo who got 137 points.
        These new set of officers will serve the school the next academic year. †






Due to lack of time, the Parent’s Talent Showdown was moved in the afternoon. Instead, lunch was served on that time. The participants dined at the sides of the venue savoring their meals.
        After lunch time, the parents had their showdown. The parents who joined the presentation were mostly women.
        The awarding of Director’s List was also conducted. The students, along with their parents received Certificates of Recognition.
        The Family Games wasn’t pushed through due to the bad weather and lack of time. Other students just strolled around the venue, or bathed on the beach.
        Then came the awarding of prizes to winners of different contests. The special award are : Early flock, Family from the farthest place, Oldest participant, Biggest family delegation, and the class with the highest attendance, The crowd gradually diminished until five in the afternoon. †





       Napiñas is new SA President

        After days of campaign and convincing the voters, a new set of SA officials were elected with Ace Napinas as President.
        The official candidates for the WINGS (Witty Individuals Negotiating With Genuine Scholars) Party were Anne Asis for President, Rachel Ann Villamayor for Vice President, Mine Tagra for Secretary, Juchris Bayani for Treasurer, Danielle Militante for Auditor, Ina Costibolo for Public Information Officer.
        The official candidates YOU (Young Organizers’ Union) Party were Ace Napinas for President, Mera Shane Golo for Vice President, Victoria Cu for Secretary, Marc Arthur Limpiado for Treasurer, Angelica Maria Malit for Auditor and Monique Paet for Public Information Officer.
        Five days before the SA Election, the candidates had their room-to-room campaign. Each party was allotted twenty minutes for their campaign. Some candidates also had intermission numbers.

        Family Day on Heart's Day

         The students with their families enjoyed themselves during the Family Day ’09 held again at the MacArthur Beach Resort, February 14.
         Families from different placed came to witness the Family Day. First was the registration of participants. At exactly 8:00 A.M., a Eucharistic celebration was conducted by the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Muriel Uy.
         A short program took place to start the day’s activities. The Master of Ceremonies were Communication Arts teacher, Mr. John Ivan Palagar and GPTCA Seretary, Mrs. Edita Pelias. Mr. Emmanuel Naval, GPTA President delivered his Welcome Address.
         After an hour of rehearsals of students and parents fro, the Student’s Talent Showdown. The freshmen presented dances and songs by group. The sophomores danced and grooved into the rhythm of their song remixes. The juniors danced with a star dancer leading the group. The fourth year were able to manage their presentation though unprepared.
